pereq grew out of Cryspen, founded in December 2021 by Karthik Bhargavan, Franziskus Kiefer and Jonathan Protzenko to take formal verification tools developed at research labs like Inria and apply them to commercial software.
In June 2026, Cryspen spun off its cryptographic engineering work and refocused on building formal verification tools for real-world, security-critical software.
